List of Services

Biosafety cabinet certification

LEM manages a schedule for certification of Biosafety cabinets and Laminar flow hoods for KAUST. The certification service is delivered by an authorized external service provider. A vendor visit is schedule on quarterly bases and LEM shares the visit date range. The user can book a specific date a time that suites their schedule or wait for the vendor to visit. A detailed report is provided upon completion. Certification requests should be sent to LEM@kaust.edu.sa

LEM provides corrective maintenance of manufacturer laboratory equipment in laboratory setting. LEM typically do not cover custom-made equipment, pilot or industrial-scale equipment, equipment located in the field and equipment purchased against LEM’s recommendation. The down time will depend on the level of support from the manufacturer. But LEM’s specialist will do their best to minimize the downtime and cost of maintenance. The service can be accessed by logging a request via the LEMsystem or sending an email with the equipment tag number and a description of the problem to LEM@kaust.edu.sa

 

LEM facilitates solution for remote equipment of certain critical equipment such as cold storage UPS. The user will have to pay for the sensors. But LEM will install the solution and configure the user’s access and notification protocol. 

LEM provides backup (hotswap) equipment for certain classes of equipment such as freezers, vacuum pumps, chillers…etc. The goal is to minimize the research downtime or parent asset downtime while the user’s equipment is being repaired. This equipment is subject to availability and it is deployed on first come first served bases.  

LEM manages a calibration lab that provides ISO-certified volume and mass calibrations for equipment such as balances and pipettes. LEM can also develop calibration procedures for other parameters on demand. Calibration services can be accessed through this link: Pipette Calibration Request

 

LEM provides assessment maintenance strategy for new and existing equipment. The strategy is based on LEM’s ability to maintain equipment for specific manufacturers from each assets class. LEM maintains strategic relationships with manufactures laboratory equipment in order to facilitate access to service-level training, documents and spare parts. LEM can provide user-level maintenance training and/or operation training on equipment from preferred vendors. This helps extend the equipment’s lifetime and encourages good stewardships and operation. To inquire about LEM’s ability to provide training on a specific equipment in your lab, please contact LEM@kaust.edu.sa   

LEM can provide on-demand preventive maintenance based on a schedule managed by the users. The users are encouraged to monitor the utilization and operation of the equipment, be familiar with the manufacturer’s recommendation for preventive maintenance frequency and request preventive maintenance from LEM when it is necessary. For some equipment, such as water purification systems, preventive maintenance can be performed by the user. However, LEM are willing to provide a one-time demonstration, if needed. LEM can assess the working condition of commissioned equipment before it is sent to the surplus catalog. This helps successful redeployment of working equipment and prevent incorrectly disposing working equipment.
